Resumen
El etnoturismo es una actividad en la que los visitantes buscan experiencias en comunidades originarias; es un turismo sustentable y respetuoso de los pueblos ancestrales. No obstante, su estudio ha sido limitado en los últimos años. Por lo tanto, el presente artículo de revisión tiene como objetivo analizar las categorías temáticas que guían las investigaciones en torno al etnoturismo en las últimas décadas exponiendo su estado actual, así como futuras líneas de investigación. Para lograrlo, se efectuó una revisión sistemática de literatura en la base de datos Scopus publicada de 2000 a 2022. El proceso consideró las etapas del Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA): identificación, cribado, elegibilidad e inclusión. Se realizaron dos tipos de análisis: bibliométrico y de contenido. Los resultados develaron cuatro categorías temáticas: a) elementos de desarrollo etnoturístico; b) segmento turístico; c) desarrollo local, y d) función de la comunidad receptora. En conclusión, se denota el potencial turístico basado en cultura, costumbres y tradiciones, la incidencia de este en el desarrollo local, el papel de la comunidad receptora y la percepción de los turistas étnicos.
