Revista de El Colegio de San Luis sets forth its policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in manuscripts submitted for publication, in order to ensure transparency and promote ethical practices throughout the editorial process, in accordance with the standards of the Commitee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and taking into account the recommendations set out in the Heredia Declaration.
1. Authors
- Limited use of AI tools is permitted, provided that it does not exceed of 10–20% of the total manuscript.
- The use of AI tools is restricted exclusively to technical support functions, including image quality enhancement and the generation of figures, tables, and analytical tools.
- The use of Generative AI for the creation or drafting of intellectual content is prohibited.
- No artificial intelligence tool may be recognized as an author or co-author of the manuscript.
- Responsibility for the intellectual content rests entirely with the authors.
Authors must explicitly disclose any use of AI tools when submitting their manuscript through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, specifically in the “Comments for the Editor” section. The statement must include:
- Name and version of the AI tool used.
- Date on which it was used.
- Detailed description of the prompt (the instructions provided to the AI).
Failure to disclose the use of AI may result in the immediate rejection of the manuscript.
2. Peer reviewers
In order to preserve the anonymity and confidentiality of manuscripts throughout the editorial process, members of the review committee are not authorized to upload any part of a manuscript to AI tools or systems. This restriction is intended to protect the integrity of the review process and the authors’ moral and economic rights.
3. Editorial Team
In keeping with our commitment to protecting personal, sensitive, or third-party data, members of the editorial team are prohibited from using artificial intelligence tools to perform editorial tasks or review manuscripts. The only exception is the use of iThenticate to detect text similarities and potential AI-generated content during the initial stage of the editorial process. This policy reaffirms that editorial decisions are not automated and remain the exclusive responsibility of human editors.
Since artificial intelligence is a constantly evolving field, Revista de El Colegio de San Luis will continuously review and update its guidelines to align with best editorial practices.
