Abstract
Juan Carlos Onetti is a universal author, but twenty yearsafter his death he is still considered as awriter for tormented readers.This papershows howthis and other prejudices arewrong.To answerthe common and false places on Onetti, this paper explores various hypotheses about his greatness and highlights the human roots of his fictions.References
