Abstract
Community work is not merely about carrying out group activities, but about developing consensus strategies under a collective conscience. One of the many ways to boost collective conscience could be through community forest management aimed at the conservation of forests and jungles. For this reason, this research presents a systematic review of the literature on community forest management case studies in Latin America with the aim of revealing findings, trends and research challenges in this field of study of forest systems. Methodological principles are taken from the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) declaration and the Cochrane Manual for Systematic Reviews. The results suggest that there is a research trend to carry out diagnoses of community forest management experiences with qualitative and quantitative approaches. It is necessary for academia to promote other forms of research with impact and the use of modeling and simulation methodologies, as well as participatory approaches of a socio-environmental nature and inter and transdisciplinary approaches to propose viable community forest management strategies in support of the design of public policies and decision-making in forestry matters, in particular, and environmental matters, in general.
