Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the social representations teachers have about the evaluation of teaching expressed by 109 teachers. An association of words instrument, with the inductor term: “evaluation to the teacher” was applied to 109 professors. The participants were asked to write three definer words, rank them and give a meaning to each one. The results were concentrated in three representations: the acceptance, the rejection and the duty about evaluation. The highest percentage of Semantic Weight was concentrated in the representation of acceptance. In the second place was that of duty and in the third place, the rejection. These data indicate that the participating teachers in this research are not afraid of evaluation, but the way it was carried out, the governmental imposition, the explicitness of the punishment and the role of the media in the stigmatization of the professor, all which contributed with the resistance of a sector of teachers.
