Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the factors that influenced the emergence of the local garrafon water market in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. The study was addressed through a documentary analysis of the legal framework, the application of semistructured interviews to public officials related to the provision of drinking water and the evaluation of users perception through a questionnaire to determine their consumption habits of water. The factors that have influenced the emergence of the water market have been a lax regulatory framework of bottling plants, the lack of reports on the water quality of the operator and events related to the contamination of water sources that have eroded confidence in the water quality of the tap.
